| How to Possess the Land |
God said to Joshua: SEE, I have set the land before you. GO IN and POSSESS THE LAND.
So the Holy Spirit is saying to us “Now is the time to possess the land”. What does that mean for us?
It is not a literal geographic place, but a “land of His promises being fulfilled in our lives. A place of prosperity, blessing
and fruitfulness, that we might glorify Him.” What has He promised you? What has He spoken to your heart?
There is a PROMISED LAND that God wants to bring YOU into personally, and your family.
There is also a PROMISED LAND that God wants US as a church to POSSESS in 2010.
You should be interested in BOTH.
We got excited about possessing our promised land, and suddenly discovered that there was opposition, even some
giants standing in our way.
#1. To Possess YOUR promised land, you MUST begin to SEE YOURSELF as God sees you.
The REASON they were “not able” is because of how they saw themselves, "as grasshoppers".
How does God see you? It is revealed in the WORD. See yourself as God sees you. This is who you really are.
James 1:23-25 – you look GOOD in this mirror!
Just like God told Joshua:
Joshua 1:8 ( NKJV ) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night,
that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then
you will have good success.
God told Joshua “arise” (Joshua 1:2). When you begin to see yourself as God sees you, you will ARISE in faith, ARISE in
expectation, ARISE in your authority in Christ!
#2. To Possess YOUR promised land ALL of the "WE ARE NOT ABLE" must DIE out of your thinking and
believing.
#3. It must be replaced with WE ARE WELL ABLE, for THE LORD IS WITH US.
Numbers 13:30 ( NKJV ) Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take
possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Philippians 4:13 ( NKJV ) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
#4. To Possess YOUR promised land, you must be MORE CONVINCED of the reality of God’s promise to you
than of the circumstances that would prevent you from entering in.
#5. To Possess YOUR promised LAND, you must “tread upon it” through meditation in the Word, (see
yourself with it) and using your spiritual authority in Christ, commanding Satan to take his hands off.
Joshua 1:3 (New International Version)
I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.
Realize also, God is saying “Your promised land can never be TOO BIG for My ability to bring you into it. If YOU can
walk it, you can have it.” The limits are not coming from God. The only limitation is “how much land can you put your foot
on?”
The Testimony of Rahab – Proof that the Devil is Afraid of You! Joshua 2:9-11
Rahab said “I KNOW that the Lord has given you the land.” She had more confidence than the children of Israel.
The Devil KNOWS that the Lord has given us the land. His only hope is to keep us ignorant of the truth.
He has heard (he knows first-hand) how the Lord has delivered us.
The devil (and demons) are afraid of YOU! Because YOU are IN CHRIST!
#6. To Possess the Land, we must sanctify ourselves, Joshua 3:5
We are told in 2 Timothy 2:20-21, that to be vessels God can work through fully, we must be sanctified, or set apart for
Him, not compromising in our lifestyle, but living fully for God.
#7. To Possess the Land, we must TAKE A STEP OF FAITH. Joshua 3:11-17
The first step to going in to possess the land was CROSSING THE JORDAN RIVER.
The Priests had to step IN FAITH into the river.
When they took that step of faith, God did a miracle. The waters were dried up and they crossed over on dry ground.
Notice this – the river was at “flood stage”. God did not choose for them to cross when the river was low and nearly dried
up. You may be thinking “this is not a good time for me to take a step of faith.” I’ll wait and see what the economy does,
etc…
TAKE A STEP OF FAITH. WATCH GOD WORK. HE WILL GET THE GLORY!!!
#8. To Possess the Land, we must hear from God and discover His strategy for “taking the land”.
Joshua 6:1-5
God gave Joshua His strategy, of how they were to take Jericho.
God will give you His strategy. That’s why we are taking time to pray out the plan of God for our lives in 2010.
We can get advice and counsel from others, but ultimately, we need to hear from God and do what He says to do.
#9. To Possess the Land, we must FULLY OBEY the instructions of the Lord.
Joshua 6:7-11, 14 , Joshua 6:15-16, 20
The children of Israel did as the Lord commanded them through Joshua, in marching around the city of Jericho for
seven days.
#10. After you have obeyed the Lord’s instructions, then SHOUT and REJOICE, for the Lord has given you
the land.
Hebrews 10:36 ( NKJV ) 36For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may
receive the promise:
Notice also that they SHOUTED BEFORE the walls fell down, not afterward. They shouted IN FAITH. They SHOUTED out
of OBEDIENCE.
